Hugh Sheridan becomes our Patron

Hugh Sheridan - New Patron For Urban Myth Theatre of Youth!  Urban Myth is proud to announce that Adelaide born actor, singer and performer, Hugh Sheridan (best known for his role as Ben Rafter in the television series Packed to the Rafters) is now their patron.

Having studied at Unley Youth Theatre (now Urban Myth) while in his youth here in Adelaide, Hugh Sheridan went on to attend the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and while still completing his final year, he won his role in Packed to The Rafters.

Urban Myth’s Artistic Director says, “I am so pleased that an artist with a busy schedule such as Hugh’s sees the importance of supporting an organisation like Urban Myth. The company turns 30 in 2011 and to launch into our celebrations with Hugh on board reaffirms Urban Myth as a South Australian institution that not only builds pathways into the arts, but encourages young people to recognise their goals and to bravely work towards them. As the Patron of Urban Myth, Hugh will be a great ambassador for our work and I am looking forward to collaborating with him to encourage all young people to utilise what the company can offer through its workshops and performance activities.”

“I’m really pleased and humbled to be chosen to be the patron of such an essential drama school”, says Hugh Sheridan … “I think it’s a unique opportunity for children to explore acting on a level that I believe runs deeper than the Year 12 mould and focuses more on the creativity and the groundwork than most talent schools. I believe my passion for acting began at a very young age at what was then the Unley Youth Theatre and I hope many more young children will be introduced to the school through my patronage”.
